The Ghana Sociological and Anthropological Association (GSAA) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent helicopter crash on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, which claimed eight lives and left the nation in mourning.
The association’s message, issued at the close of its 9th Annual Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon, on Friday, 8th August 2025, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the victims. It also affirmed solidarity with all those affected, both in Ghana and abroad.
National Convenor, Professor William Boateng, underscored the importance of allowing official investigations into the crash to proceed without interference, encouraging citizens to support the relevant authorities to ensure a transparent and thorough process.
“The GSAA acknowledges that official investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash have commenced. We urge all Ghanaians to exercise patience and support the work of the relevant authorities to allow for a thorough, independent, and transparent inquiry.”
The GSAA further urged the public to act with compassion and sensitivity by avoiding the circulation of graphic images or videos of the victims. It emphasised that safeguarding the dignity of the deceased is essential in preserving societal values and aiding the healing process.
“We strongly appeal to the public to uphold the sanctity of life and the dignity of the deceased. We call on all citizens to refrain from sharing or circulating graphic images or videos of the victims. Let us collectively promote a culture of compassion, respect, and ethical conduct in the face of grief.”
The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible citizenship, contributing to national recovery, and engaging in scholarly reflection on matters of public concern.
