Some ghanaians have praised the government for implementing the Green Ghana Day Project.
They shared their views with UniversNews at the 2023 Edition of the Green Ghana Day.
The event took place at the University Of Ghana Main Park on Friday, June 9th, 2023. It was a public ceremony held to commemorate the occasion on the theme “Our Forest, Our Health”.
The event was climaxed by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to lead the nation into planting seedlings across the country.
The attendees at the event expressed excitedness at the project’s impact and its benefits.
They called on fellow citizens to hold the project in high regards as it would be beneficial for future generations as well.
“Honestly, I feel the Green Ghana initiative is a huge thing and the impact is immense. People should view [this project] as a measure where we do not plant for ourselves but we plant for the future generations, it is a huge project and a nice initiative and we have to uphold it and keep pushing it hard.”
Some ghanaians also expressed hope in the potential of the project.
They believed that the project would help Ghana and ultimately the global community to effectively control climate change.
They encouraged other ghanaians to support the initiative to attain the goal of the project.
“There is the need for us to make sure that our environment is quite sustainable and it means that we need to have a lot of trees in our environment so I believe that, this occasion will position Ghana and the world at large to be able to combat the global crisis which is kind of having a detrimental effect on our environment. This is a very important program and occasion for all of us to get engaged and involved in.”
Green Ghana Day was launched in 2021 by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to create an avenue for afforestation and reforestation in Ghana.
It was an initiative intended to encourage the practice of reforestation and afforestation among ghanaians with hopes of recovering Ghana’s lost vegetation and fighting climate change alongside the global community.
Every year, a target number of seedlings is set to be planted, with this year’s aim going at 10 million seedlings across the country.
