GPL Match Report: Hearts of Oak halt Berekum Chelsea’s 9-game unbeaten home streak

After enduring consecutive losses, Accra Hearts of Oak reclaimed their winning form with an impressive 3-0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. Prior to this victory, Hearts of Oak had faced setbacks in their previous three away matches, all ending in defeat.

Coach Aboubakara Ouatarra deployed a formidable starting lineup capable of overcoming Berekum Chelsea. Hearts of Oak commenced the match with vigor, continuously pressing their opponents in search of an early goal.

In the 20th minute, Hamza Issah unleashed a powerful shot into the net of the home team, leaving Berekum Chelsea goalkeeper Obeng Sekyere helpless. This gave Hearts of Oak a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Back from recess, Linda Mtange scored in the 59th minute with an individual solo effort to make it 2-0 for the Phobia boys at the Golden City Park. The home team kept on pushing for an equalizer but all efforts to bring smiles to the faces of the fans yielded no results.

Ivorian forward Kasim Cisse had an immediate impact, securing the third goal for Accra Hearts of Oak in the 83rd minute shortly after entering the match as a substitute for Issah Kuka.

Berekum Chelsea nearly scored a consolation in the 87th minute but Hearts goalkeeper Kwesi Nketiah came to his team’s rescue, denying the home side a goal and eventually keeping a clean sheet.

Berekum Chelsea has failed to secure a victory against Accra Hearts of Oak in their last seven encounters. Additionally, Accra Hearts of Oak ended Berekum Chelsea’s nine-match unbeaten streak at home with a 3-0 victory today.

Hearts of Oak currently occupies the 11th position with 38 points after playing 29 games, whereas Chelsea maintains the 8th position with 41 points.
