“Government is committed in supporting construction of the Digital Youth Village”- Dr. Bawumia

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia has revealed that government is committed to providing support for the construction of the Digital Youth Village.

The Digital Youth Village is an initiative by the university of Ghana set to be built on a 5-acre land as an avenue to harness creativity, excellent learning and information technologies.

In opening the 75th Annual New Year School and Conference held at the University of Ghana, which was themed ‘Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology and Embracing Humanism for Sustainable Development’, Dr. Bawumia stated that the project will be aimed at boasting digital entrepreneurship among the youth and promoting innovation and creativity.

According to the Vice President, funds have been allocated in the 2024 national budget to support the construction of the Village.

“We are committed to the construction of the Digital Youth Village as announced with provisions made in the 2024 budget. This initiative is intended to boost digital entrepreneurship among the nation’s youth. The Digital Youth Village is poised to be a center of excellence for learning, innovation, and creativity with state-of-the-art infrastructure and technologies.”

He announced that phase one of the project will be completed before the end of the year; he also commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, for her dedication in promoting innovation and development among students at the university.

“Phase one of the Digital Youth Village project is expected to be completed before the end of this year. I will also want to commend the Vice-Chancellor for her bold initiatives on innovation, development, and technology.”

Dr. Bawumia also urged well-meaning individuals and institutions to support the university’s management on its digitalization agenda.

He commended the university’s management for the initiatives put in place to promote digitalization on its campus.

“In order for us to be really competitive in this fourth industrial revolution, access to digital devices is not a luxury but a necessity, so we have to ensure that digital devices are made available across our tertiary institutions.”

“I have also followed keenly the One Student, One Laptop Initiative, the Classroom Modernization Project, and the Construction of Hotspot Comfort Zones on campus to provide ideal locations for student relaxation, which are commendable initiatives, and I therefore urge well-meaning individuals and institutions to contribute generously to these projects.”
