President Akufo-Addo has engaged with Organised Labour to address pressing issues surrounding illegal small-scale mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”

The meeting, held on October 3, 2024, at the Jubilee House, is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat the severe environmental and economic consequences of illegal mining, which have become a national concern.

In a press statement released by the Ministry of Information, the government expressed its gratitude to Organised Labour for honouring the President’s invitation.

The discussions focused on key strategies for curbing illegal mining activities and promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in the mining sector.

The government reiterated its commitment to involving all relevant stakeholders in addressing the complex challenges posed by illegal small-scale mining.

This collaborative approach aims to ensure that while mining continues to provide economic opportunities for many, it is balanced with stringent environmental protections to safeguard the country’s natural resources.

“The government is committed to engaging all stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainable mining and environmental protection.”
