The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has restated the need for a specific funding source to bolster pre-tertiary education in the country.

This statement comes amid ongoing worries regarding the financing of Ghana’s education system, particularly following the government’s approval of about GHC 31.7 billion for the Ministry’s operations in 2025.

In an interview with the media, General Secretary of the Association, Thomas Tanko Musah highlighted that dedicated funding is essential for tackling the challenges related to educational financing. He urged the government to abandon its fragmented approach to funding education and adopt a more sustainable financing model.

“We need a dedicated fund. This is not the only item that we have in the education sector. We have the issue of school feeding and all other related matters. How do we intend to fund all those things? It is a good thing that the GETFund has been uncapped, but we want to see the allocation that will be made to get these things done.We must be able to agree and decide on how we intend to finance and fund all our educational expenditures. Aside from that, we must have a dedicated and consistent source of supply of resources,” he stated.
