Ghanaian swimmer, Zaira Forson tops chart at African Junior Aquatic Championship [Zone II]

Malaga based Ghanaian Swimmer, Zaira Akua Forson has earned her place among the elite in the sport, after she capped her extraordinary show of swimming skills with 7 gold medals before she was adjudged the best swimmer (female) accolade, at the just ended African Junior Aquatic championship (Zone II) in Accra.

The 17-year old Ghanaian swim icon was unstoppable throughout the three-day event at the University of Ghana Swimming centre, leading the host nation to glory and contributing to half of Ghana’s 22 medals.

Zaira, a product of the Real Club Mediterráneo who trains under Coach Nicole Kerr was marking her return from injury after enduring a jelly fish attack at the African Beach games in Hammamet, Tunisia, during the 5km open water event. The Ghanaian swimmer was elated to pick up medals for team Ghana.

“I am happy to represent team Ghana, this competition has been a wonderful experience, I got to swim 12 races and I got to win a lot of medals for Ghana. I’m very proud to have had this opportunity and I hope to make everyone proud again. “

Zaira accrued 479 aqua points to also emerge as the third best female performer behind Nauama Diame of Senegal – 488 aqua points and Iounna Doiullet (Benin) – 582 aqua points.
