Mohammed Kudus held off competition from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as he walked home with the male player of the year – for the second year running- at the Ghana Football Awards ceremony gala on Saturday night.
The attacking midfielder joined West Ham United from Ajax during the 2023/24 season and went on to put up stellar performances across all competitions for the London based side.
His 8 goals and 6 assists in 33 premier league games, coupled with his remarkable close control and ability to glide past defenders, makes his €43m move from Amsterdam to East London feel like a bargain.
Kudus saw off competition from soon-to-be Leicester man Fatawu Issahaku, Copa Del Rey winner Iñaki Williams, and Austin Fc’s most expensive acquisition, Osman Bukari.
Although being the recipient of the award, it was a close shave as Issahaku’s impactful presence in aiding Leicester City back into the English top-flight put him in pole position to nick the award.
Ultimately, Kudus – who bagged a brace on his AFCON debut for the Black Stars against Egypt – added the award to the goal of the season accolade he had initially picked up at his club side West Ham United, after going on a mazy solo run against Freiburg in an Europa League game during the season.
