The 2023 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVET) has been released today by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
According to the ministry of education, this year’s number of school placements have remarkably improved compared to the previous year.
In a press statement from the Ministry of Education, out of the total number of 598,839 results received from the West African Examination Council (WAEC), 585,797 candidates qualified to be placed.
“A total of 477,772 (81.56%) have automatically been placed in one of their choices,” the ministry stated.
The management of Ghana Education Service has urged candidates who could not be matched with any of their choices during automatic placement to make use of the Self-placement procedure to select from available schools.
Parents of candidates were also advised from heeding to scammers promising a replacement of schools as the placement system is described to be merit-based. It was also announced that orientation and registration of students in the schools will begin on 4th December, 2023.
“The Computerized School Placement is merit-based, so parents are cautioned not to pay money to unscrupulous persons who promise to change their schools. Heads of Institutions are to begin registration and orientation from 4th December, 2023.”
Head of Public Relations Unit at Ghana Education Service (GES) Cassandra Twum Ampofo, in an interview on Joy News, mentioned that though concerns have been received that these students are to be in school on the 4th of December, 2023, they believe that the early release of the harmonized prospectus would give parents enough time to prepare their wards for school.
“Even though we have had concerns this morning that they will be going to school on the 4th of December and yet we have released the placements today, we believe that we released the harmonized prospectus ahead of time to enable parents to start some forms of preparation, especially for their wards going to the boarding house. Even though we do recognise that it’s quite a short time of a sort, we still published the prospectus way before time. This time it is a harmonized one so you wouldn’t have schools sending their prospectus.”
On the sideline, the PRO refuted allegations made by the minority in parliament over the distribution of infested rice to schools.
She indicated that investigations have been made by Regional directors and there have been no reports of schools receiving unwholesome food.
” Yesterday, I was tasked to call the Regional directors of education to liaise with their heads and to report their findings to us. None of the Regional directors gave us the information that any of the schools in their regions have received even a single bag of maggot-infested rice. I do not know where that report is coming from. Per my investigations, we did not find any so that is false.”
