The University of Ghana football team has been eliminated from the ongoing Federation of African University Sports Games.
This is the 11th edition of the competition, which is taking place in Lagos, Nigeria.
The UG football team was placed in Group A alongside Kenyatta University of Kenya and Lagos State and FUOYE universities, both from Nigeria.
The team began their campaign with a goalless draw against FUOYE at the Lagos State University Stadium on Sunday, September 22, leaving them third in Group A with only 1 point.
In their second game on Monday, they faced defending champions Kenyatta University. The champions demonstrated their title defense by defeating UG with two unanswered goals from Omenba and Gichana. After matchday 2, Team UG was last in Group A with 1 point.
The team’s final group stage match also ended in defeat, as they lost 2-1 to Nigerian side Lagos State University on Tuesday, with Fuseini Ishmael scoring the only goal for UG in the competition.
Both UG and defending champions Kenyatta were knocked out of the tournament after Kenyatta suffered a 3-0 defeat in their final group game against FUOYE, allowing Nigerian teams LASU and FUOYE to progress to the next stage of the competition.
