The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has informed the general public on power outages that may occur in some parts of the country.

These power outages are expected to occur during the peak load period, between 7pm to 11pm and this is due to increased demand on some 630 transformers in the country.

In a notice released by the ECG on 11th March, 2024 it was explained that due to the increased demand on the transformers within the peak times, the possibility of blown fuses might pose a challenge to power distribution in some parts of the country.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that so far, six hundred and thirty (630) distribution transformers within communities across our operational areas have been identified to be full to capacity due to increased demand.”

“This situation may result in blown fuses and broken conductors causing outages, especially during the peak load period (7pm – 11pm) in the affected areas.”

The ECG assured the general public that measures will be put in effect swiftly to effectively address the issues at hand and ensure an improved power supply.

“However, we wish to assure our customers that transformer upgrading, and new projects are on-going to relieve these transformers to ensure a more reliable power supply.”

Meanwhile, the ECG has also released a list of localities and areas which may be affected by the power outages or any form of voltage fluctuations, urging them to report such occurrences to the company’s call center 0302-611611 (also available on WhatsApp), or through their social media handles via ECGghOfficial (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) for prompt rectification.
