The Project Director of Eligreen Agribusiness Hub, Prince Akuaku, has pointed out a major gap in efforts to revolutionize agriculture, stressing that the lack of youth interest in the sector remains a key concern.

He explained that this challenge inspired the organization of this year’s Eligreen Women and Youth Agribusiness Exhibition Summit.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive on September 29, 2025, on Radio Univers, he emphasized that agribusiness is profitable and can serve as a viable career alternative for young people.

“There is a challenge because the youth, especially, don’t want to venture into agriculture. Yet, agriculture is exciting and can generate income. Agribusiness is a lucrative field because food is always in demand. It goes beyond farming to include processing, packaging, and distribution. When value is added, profits increase significantly, creating opportunities for both local and export markets.”

He further noted that the summit will sensitize the youth, particularly on innovative and sustainable farming solutions, to discourage them from resorting to galamsey.

“This summit seeks to help develop innovative and sustainable agribusiness solutions and to draw the youth away from destroying the land through galamsey.”

The Eligreen Women and Youth Agribusiness Exhibition Summit, scheduled for October 13–14 at the Accra International Conference Centre, is designed as a multi-stakeholder platform to showcase innovations in Ghana’s agribusiness sector. It also aims to advocate for inclusive agricultural policies and provide training and support for youth and women in agribusiness.
