The Ghana Police Service has arrested 4 individuals in connection with looting building materials meant for an Agenda 111 hospital building in Awutu Breku in the Central Region on Tuesday , December 10, 2024.
The development comes as part of the National Elections Security Taskforce arrangements to protect lives and property across the country after some rampaging youth allegedly have been on the loose in the last 72 hours attacking both public and private properties after the declaration of the December 7 polls which saw former President , H.E John Dramani Mahama as winner with a whopping 56.55% of the votes leaving his closest contender and sitting Vice President , Dr Mahammudu Bawumia in a distant second position with 41.6% .
Speaking in a media engagement at the National Elections Security Taskforce Press Centre located at the Police Headquarters in Accra , Corporal Felix Kwaku Duah revealed that in collaboration with citizens within the Awutu Breku environs ,the Police intercepted the items being hauled away in a Man Diesel tipper truck from the Agenda 111 hospital site allegedly with the tacit involvement of the contractor of the project .
He indicated that investigations are also underway to fish out the contractor and all persons connected to the stealing incident and all of whom will be brought to justice in accordance with the laid down procedure in law.
” Our men in Awutu Breku in partnership with locals have arrested four Individuals who were carrying away building materials meant for the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital facility in the district which is in the Central Region.
The items were being moved away from the project site in a Man Diesel cargo truck with registration number , GT 8715 – Z being driven by one of the suspects , by the name Kwabena Ayamba.
Police investigations reveal that the items were allegedly being moved to Tema under the express instructions of the project contractor . The 4 suspects are all in police custody awaiting full investigations and subsequent prosecution for their actions . There are also steps being put in place to locate the said project contractor and put him before the law courts for appropriate action”.
The Police Service continues to caution the general Public that its resolve to maintain law and order pre Elections ,during the Elections and post Elections remains unwavering in order to protect the peace and sanctity of Ghana’s democracy .
