The President of the Education Students’ Association (EDSA) at the University of Ghana, Anthony Opoku Mensah, has called on the Department of Education to introduce extracurricular programs that complement the academic experience of students.

He made this appeal on Campus Exclusive ahead of the Department’s upcoming Educational Week celebration, which is aimed at fostering unity and support among students.

Mr. Opoku Mensah emphasized the importance of developing students beyond academics, especially as future educators and leaders.

“This is not just about attending lectures and getting A’s in exams. We need mentorship and other programs that equip us with real-world problem-solving skills, innovation, and leadership abilities that will impact our lives on campus and beyond,” he stated.

The Education Students’ Association has commenced its annual week-long celebration, themed “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Cultivating Vision and Dedication Through Education.” The celebration began today, June 20, 2025, with a launch ceremony at the GCB Main Lecture Hall.

The week will feature a variety of activities, including sporting events, a funfair, and seminars on CV writing, résumé building, and study abroad scholarship opportunities.

The celebration will be climaxed with an educational excursion on Saturday, June 28, 2025, to notable tourist attractions in the Volta Region. These include Wli Waterfalls, Mount Afadja (Afadjato), and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village.
