The Cyber Security Authority, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, has launched the Facilitator Body for the Cyber Security Industry Practitioner Forum, as required by law.

Speaking to the press, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, intimated that the establishment of the forum is intended to provide a platform for private-sector players in the cybersecurity industry to guide government in developing enabling legislation to support the activities of all stakeholders operating in the space.

“The Industry Practitioner Forum is a vehicle designed to bring both government and industry players in the cybersecurity sector together to brainstorm on emerging issues that feed into policies and programmes which strengthen the sector, while creating an enabling environment for all stakeholders to flourish, as envisaged by the Cyber Security Act, 2020,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, Divine Selase Agbeti, noted that the Authority would serve as a conduit for identifying emerging trends affecting the operations of cybersecurity companies, helping to keep the regulator ahead of developments in a highly competitive and ultra-sensitive digital technology ecosystem, both locally and globally.

“The core duty of the Cyber Security Authority, per the dictates of the Cyber Security Act, 2020, is to act as a regulatory watchdog to sanitise the space and safeguard this very critical sector of the economy and digital landscape,” he said.

“Government, through the CSA, will enforce the regulations in the law, while private-sector players in the field provide operational feedback to the regulator to inform collaboration within the sector, supported by evidential data,” he added.

The Director-General further cautioned the general public to remain vigilant against online scams and fraudulent schemes, especially during the yuletide, and to report such incidents to the Authority for prompt action and response.
