Residents of Commonwealth Hall at the University of Ghana have lamented a severe water shortage that has persisted for weeks, disrupting their daily routines and worsening sanitary conditions in the hall.

‎The situation has left students struggling to access water for their daily needs, with many now moving from block to block carrying buckets in search of water. Long queues at the washrooms have also become a common sight.

‎The water crisis, which reportedly started a few weeks ago, has sparked frustration among residents and has become a major concern on campus.

‎Speaking to Univers News, some students described the impact of the shortage on their routines.

‎”The recent water crisis in the hall is very bad. Imagine waking up for a 7:30 a.m. class and there’s no water in the bathrooms. The only option is the polytank, which is not a reliable choice. The washrooms are also in a terrible state because the cleaners can’t maintain them properly without water,” one resident said.

‎”Honestly, this water problem is really bad. It interrupts our daily activities in the hall. Sometimes bathing before class becomes difficult. We plead with authorities to help solve this problem,” another student added.

“It’s really disturbing because life without water is no joke. We can’t even cook, wash, or bathe. Our bathrooms are not in good shape because there is no water to clean and maintain them, and this can affect our health, so authorities should treat them with urgency.”

“This water problem is worrying because for me, most of my classes are in the afternoon, and not getting water to bathe before going to class is really bad, especially on sunny days, and you can imagine? We can’t even wash our clothes anymore, and this is nothing to write home about,” one student lamented.

‎Residents are calling on hall management to take urgent steps to resolve the situation.
