Chaos at Democracy Hub protest: 39 arrested by Police in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 39 individuals for engaging in unlawful activities during the Democracy Hub demonstration at the 37 Intersection in Accra on September 22 and 23, 2024.

Following their court appearance on September 24, 2024, the accused have been remanded into custody.

Reports indicate that the demonstrators disrupted activities at the 37 Intersection, prompting police intervention. The police have assured the public that all remaining suspects will also face prosecution, with the Office of the Attorney-General managing the case.

According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service, 28 of the accused have been remanded in police custody, while 11 others have been placed in prison custody. The court has scheduled the next appearance for 30 of the accused on October 8, 2024, while the remaining 9 are set to return on October 11, 2024.

This action is part of the ongoing efforts by the police to maintain law and order during public demonstrations.
