Speaker of Parliament, Right Honorable Alban Kinsford Sumana Bagbin has promised financial assistance of up to GHS 200,000 to FC Samartex as they prepare for their upcoming continental campaign.

FC Samartex who clinched the Ghana Premier League title in just their second season in the top flight, are currently in Akropong intensifying their preparations ahead of the 2024/25 season.

A delegation led by the Paramount Chief of the area and team owner of Samartex, Richard Duah Nsenkyire, together with General Manager Edmund Ackah and several players, visited the Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

The Speaker praised their historic achievement and assured them of his full support as they prepare for the upcoming CAF Champions League.

“We are one of the three arms of government, and so on behalf of the Parliament of Ghana again, I pledge our support to you,” Bagbin said.

“Having last year donated GHS 100,000 to Medeama SC, and considering the increase in interest rates and depreciation of the cedi, I have decided to provide an additional GHS 100,000. We will do the exchange rate and other calculations to ensure the final amount is appropriate. Even if it is up to GHS 200,000, we will give you.”

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the Accra Sports Stadium for FC Samartex to be able to play their home matches in the preliminary round of the Champions League. The Timber Giants will take on Victoria United Football Club in the second leg on August 25 in Accra, following the first leg in Cameroon on August 16, 2024.
