Blockbuster 7-team trade sends Kevin Durant to Houston in historic NBA shake-up

Late last night, the NBA witnessed a landmark moment as the first-ever 7-team trade was finalized, headlined by the move of NBA legend and future of Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.

The unprecedented deal saw a flurry of player movement across the league, impacting rosters from coast to coast.

The Phoenix Suns, Durant’s former team, acquired a haul of young talent and assets including Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming, Koby Brea, Daeqwon Plowden, and a second-round pick — signaling a potential shift toward rebuilding or retooling around depth.

The Houston Rockets emerged as the centerpiece of the trade, not only landing Kevin Durant, but also welcoming back Clint Capela, a fan favorite from the team’s recent playoff runs.

The move immediately elevates Houston from a young, promising team to a potential contender in the Western Conference.

Other teams involved made more modest additions:

Brooklyn Nets received two second-round picks for their departing assets.

Golden State Warriors added Alex Toohey and Jahmai Mashack, likely aiming to bolster their bench.

Atlanta Hawks picked up David Roddy, a second-round swap, and a cash settlement.

Minnesota Timberwolves secured Rocco Zikarsky, two second-round picks, and cash.

Los Angeles Lakers added athletic wing Adou Thiero to their rotation.

The big question now: Can Kevin Durant finally lead the Rockets to their first-ever NBA Championship?

Durant averaged 26.6 points per game last season, and his elite scoring and battle-tested playoff experience could be the missing ingredient for a Rockets team brimming with potential but lacking postseason maturity.

His arrival complements Alperen Şengün’s playmaking, Amen Thompson’s perimeter defense, and Jabari Smith Jr.’s shooting, giving Houston a more well-rounded roster.

If Durant can stay healthy and the front office shores up the bench with veteran depth, the Rockets might not just compete — they might contend.

However, not everyone is sold. Some fans feel that several teams were “fleeced” to make this megadeal possible, with others arguing the return wasn’t worth the spectacle.

As with any blockbuster trade, time — and postseason performance — will be the ultimate judge.
