The new FIFA rankings for October 2025 has been released, bringing several notable shifts in the global football hierarchy.

Ghana’s Black Stars, who previously sat 75th in the world, have climbed two places to 73rd, following an impressive run of results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

During the recent international break, the Black Stars thrashed the Central African Republic 5-0 in Morocco before edging Comoros 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

These back-to-back victories propelled Ghana to the top of Group I and secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

The rise in the global rankings reflects the team’s renewed form and growing momentum as preparations continue for next year’s tournament. However, on the continental front, Ghana’s position remains unchanged at 14th in Africa.

Otto Addo and his boys will try to improve the team’s ranking further when they return to action next month in the friendlies against Japan and South Korea.

Meanwhile, on the global stage, Spain (1st) have solidified their hold on the top spot after consecutive wins, maintaining the position they seized when they ended Argentina’s reign in April 2023.

World champions Argentina (2nd, up one) have leapfrogged France (3rd, down one) after Les Bleus were held to a costly 2-2 draw by Iceland in the UEFA qualifiers.

Germany (10th, up two) have reclaimed a place in the top ten, pushing Croatia (11th, down two) out after a disappointing draw in their qualifiers for next year’s World Cup. Elsewhere, the Netherlands (6th, up one) have overtaken Brazil (7th, down one) following the Seleção’s stumble in a friendly against Japan.

Among the rest of the top 50, Hungary (37th, up four), Scotland (38th, up five), Nigeria (41st, up four), and Romania (47th, up four) have all benefited from impressive performances in recent fixtures.

Further down the table, Niger (108th), Lesotho (144th), and the Faroe Islands (127th) each climbed nine places — with the Faroe Islands’ surprise win over Czechia (44th, down five) proving particularly influential.

Also making strides are Kosovo (84th, up seven), achieving a historic high, along with Syria (86th) and Liberia (138th), both up six spots. Conversely, Greece (48th) and Sweden (40th) have each dropped eight places after poor qualifying results.
