Asante Kotoko came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with FC AshantiGold 04 in the Ashanti Derby at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

Samuel Fosu Boateng gave the hosts the lead in the 41st minute with a long-range strike that took a deflection off Joseph Amoah, ending AshantiGold’s perfect home record in sight.

Kotoko responded after the break when Patrick Asiedu levelled with a powerful free-kick in the 62nd minute.

The Porcupine Warriors had goalkeeper Aziz Dari Haruna to thank for keeping them in the contest, with two crucial saves in either half to deny the Miners a winner.

The result ends AshantiGold’s three-game winning run at home since their promotion, while Kotoko earn a valuable point on the road after back-to-back wins.

AshantiGold coach Abdul Karim Zito, facing his former club, stated that he was satisfied with the outcome, saying, “We had a lot of opportunities, but their goalkeeper was at his best. The 1-1 signifies what happened.”

The draw leaves both sides mid-table, with Kotoko moving to 13 points and AshantiGold to 12 points after 8 matches.
