Retired star players of Barcelona, known as the ‘Barça Legends,’ will face off against former Ghanaian football stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, November 10.

Among the notable players the Blaugrana veterans will challenge are the legendary Abedi Pelé, a three-time African Player of the Year (1991, 1992, and 1993), best remembered for winning the 1993 Champions League with Olympique Marseille; Asamoah Gyan, who was awarded the 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year and played for clubs such as Modena, Udinese, and Sunderland; and Stephen Appiah, who gained recognition in Italy for his stints with Juventus, Parma, Bologna, and Udinese.

This will be the fifth time the Barça Legends play on African soil. Their first appearance was in Mozambique in 2017, followed by a visit to Morocco in 2019, and in 2023, they played in both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Barça Legends programme, launched in 2016 and managed directly by the club, aims to bring together former stars in a stable project that promotes the Barça brand globally. It also serves as a platform to uphold and spread the club’s renowned values.

Some of the notable former Barcelona players who feature for the Barça Legends include Zambrotta, Abidal, Puyol, Deco, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Saviola, Thierry Henry, among others.
