The project aims to promote mass participation and accessibility in sports as a means of developing community development.

It aims to enable members of the local community to collaborate in order to take joint action and come up with practical answers to issues that affect everyone.

The projects main areas of activity consist of:

• The supply of sports equipment
• Organising of Sports events
• Construction of play areas and multi-purpose courts.

This year’s focus was on the Asante Akyem south district as part of their goals to use sports for social development in local communities across the nation.

They organized a football tournament and are working on a newly constructed multi-purpose playing surface.

Four clubs from four different towns participated in the U13, U15, and U17 categories.

They also donated sports equipment to schools and community juveniles. The tennis clubs received tennis rackets and balls.

These teams that participated are Golden Boys (Abekobom), Kings Fc (Nyankoma), Soccer Game Boys (Apragya), and Erico Mornings Stars (Obogu).

The only teams that fielded female teams were Erico Mornings (EMS) and Soccer Game Boys (SGB), with EMS emerging victorious in the women’s division.

There was a league structure in place for all the categories; Kings FC took first place in the U13 division, SGB in the U15 division, and EMS in the U17 division.

Speaking exclusively to univers sports, Mr. Mac Kofi Mawuli Quarshie expressed optimism that local clubs will improve in quality before the upcoming edition, which is scheduled to begin in November or December.

“With the tournament getting teams to field players with the correct ages in the respective categories, it’s my expectation to improve the quality of clubs from the training grounds to the commercial level. I will call on members in the communities to support sporting clubs and competitions” he revealed
