CEO of Akwaaba Yoghurt, Afia Kwakyewaa Agyapong Kwakye, has called on young entrepreneurs to leverage social media and other accessible tools to grow their businesses, rather than waiting for access to expensive equipment or significant capital.
Speaking on the Talking Business show on Radio Univers, Agyapong Kwakye urged aspiring entrepreneurs to act on their ideas.
“If you have a vision, start it. Don’t wait for sophisticated equipment. Invest in yourself. You have a phone, social media utilize it. Social media is now more powerful than any other tool. And then build a good profile for yourself.”
She also highlighted the importance of building strong networks with fellow entrepreneurs, noting that peer support can be essential in managing the stress and emotional demands of running a business.
“It’s only you and a few people who believe in the vision you have like-minded people like you. So when you’re an entrepreneur, I’d advise that you have friends who are in that same setting. Those who share the same mindset. I have a lot of friends who are also in that field, and if I’m going through anything, I talk to them about it.”
Agyapong Kwakye also expressed concerns over the disbursement and impact of entrepreneurship funds in Ghana. She questioned the effectiveness of current support mechanisms and called for increased transparency.
“I feel like we can get an independent body, whereas this independent body can really handpick those who are doing very well,” she said.
She emphasized that such a body would help ensure that funding reaches truly deserving entrepreneurs and yields measurable results.
