Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united and committed to the party’s founding principles as it prepares for upcoming political contests.
The message was delivered on his behalf by former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference.
Highlighting the party’s accomplishments, Akufo-Addo pointed to the resilience and governance excellence demonstrated by the NPP, starting from President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration (2001–2009) and continuing through his own tenure from 2017 to 2025. He asserted that Ghana has experienced some of its most significant progress under NPP leadership.
“The NPP’s future depends on its ability to stay grounded in the principles of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition,” he said, describing those values as “eternally forthright” and fundamental to Ghana’s advancement.
He emphasized that unity, dedication, and fidelity to the party’s core beliefs were key to sustaining its influence and long-term success.
“We must remain firm and united around the time-tested ideals of our tradition,” Akufo-Addo said. “It is these principles that have continually proven to be the most fitting guide for governance in our country.”
He also urged party members to reconcile their differences and be mindful of their actions in the coming months, stressing that their conduct would influence public confidence in the party.
“Our conduct during this period will either reinforce the confidence of Ghanaians or draw them away from us,” he cautioned.
Akufo-Addo further underscored the importance of empowering the youth, stating that they are not just the future but the present.
His remarks come at a pivotal time for the NPP, as the party prepares for internal elections and positions itself for the 2028 national polls.
