In what was a class act, Nigerian national Junior champion and swim sensation, Chukwudi Kanu picked up the most prestigious prize in the men’s category of the Africa Aquatics Junior Championship Zone II; the Best male swimmer.

One of the key highlights of his performance was his unrivaled finish in the 200m breast stroke. The 16-year old student from Garange school led the medal raid for Nigeria in the men’s category snatching 8 medals in the individual events.

Speaking to UniversSports after the award ceremony, an emotional Chukwudi shared his experience of competing along side other national champions.

“I started on not a too good note with my flight delayed and mixed results on day one, but I am happy with how we (Nigeria) have responded and with how I have helped my team to fight through all the difficulties its been a great.”

Best male performer Alexis Kpade of Benin came in as runner runner up and fellow country man Chukwuralu Olise was awarded third best male swimmer.

Kanu will be hoping to translate his dominance onto the world stage as the team prepares for the World championships in Israel next month.

The Nigerian swim star represented the white and green nation at last year’s World Junior Acquatic Championships in Peru.
