Accra Hearts of Oak reignited their confidence with a commanding 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on Matchday 3 of the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The Phobians, who had gone seven matches without a win against Kotoko, broke the deadlock inside the opening ten minutes when Frank Abora Duku capitalised on hesitant defending to fire home the opener.
The early goal settled Hearts and gave them control of the contest, forcing Kotoko to chase the game.
Kotoko tried to respond with sustained pressure, but they found Hearts’ defence resolute and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare in assured form.
Despite a string of efforts, the Porcupine Warriors lacked the cutting edge needed to turn possession into goals, while their own goalkeeper, Mohamed Camara, was kept busy with several crucial saves to prevent a heavier defeat.
Hearts sealed the victory late on when substitute Emmanuel Amankwah rose highest to plant a firm header into the net, sparking wild celebrations from the stands.
The result not only ended Hearts’ long wait for a win over their fiercest rivals but also provided a major confidence boost ahead of the start of the new Ghana Premier League season.
