The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva has urged Ghana’s creditors to move swiftly in the securing of the IMF deal.
She was speaking at the sidelines of the just-ended IMF/World Bank Spring meetings in Washington D.C in the United States of America.
According to Kristalina Georgieva, the move by the Minister of Finance to reach out to creditors is a step towards achieving positive results in the IMF deal.
She then encouraged the creditors to act swiftly.
“We have been urging Ghana’s creditors to act swiftly. My appreciation for the proactive role of the minister of finance of Ghana in reaching out to creditors. We are expecting a discussion among creditors and I will use every opportunity to urge them to act swiftly”
Kristina Georgiva also applauded Ghana’s demonstration of a strong microeconomic performance. She stated that there is a need for reinforcement to maintain that record.
“Ghana is a country that has a long track record of sound microeconomic management and ought to be supported to return to mark its time.”
She also expressed optimism in Ghana’s creditors to fast-track activities to secure the necessary financing agreement to secure the dollar bailout.
“I am quite optimistic Ghana is going to move, their creditors are going to move and we are going to move swiftly”.
