The Dean of the School of Information and Communication Studies at the University of Ghana, Professor Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin, has urged outgoing Radio Univers volunteers to build on the station’s legacy and uphold its reputation as a training ground for future communication professionals.

Speaking at the 2026 Leavers’ Dinner, Awards & Handover Ceremony at the Great Hall on 19th September 2026, Professor Yeboah-Banin referenced Ghanaian television personality and Radio Univers alumnus Giovanni Caleb as an example of the professional paths the leavers could pursue.

She advised the volunteers not to take their experience at the station for granted, saying it could influence the kind of journalists they become.

“When you finish your job at Univers, you get to decide whether you become Giovanni or you will become somebody who once worked at Univers who we do not remember. In other words, what you do beyond here matters as much as what you’ve done here, but don’t take what you’ve done here for granted,” she said.

She further highlighted the reputation of Radio Univers, encouraging the volunteers to strengthen the foundation built by the station and inspire future generations.

“Radio Univers is very respected out there and we rely on those of you to help us deepen that grounding that we have out there so that future generations, when they’re looking for opportunities in the media, would have those who think to them.”
