The black Queens of Ghana have successfully booked a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament following their massive 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Morocco on Thursday, August 13,2026.
From failing to attain an automatic qualification to the World Cup through the semi-finals of Women’s African Cup of Nations 2026, the tournament offered a second chance for the black Queens and they wasted no time grabbing this opportunity.
Côte d’Ivoire took the lead by scoring a penalty kind courtesy of Ines Konan in the 4th minute who made no mistake to put the Lady Elephants ahead.
Ghana restored parity in the 59th minute through Princess marfo and successfully completed the comeback with defender Josephine Bonsu converting a penalty to score Ghana’s second goal to make sure their World cup hopes are kept alive.
Côte d’Ivoire fought very hard in search of a leveller, however the Black Queens defence remained resolute depriving Cote D’Ivoire of an equaliser at the dying embers on the match.
Now, the Queens will be excited that their dream of making it back to the World Cup after 19 years is gradually becoming a reality.
Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is positive and believes that his side can sail through the playoffs which will take place in November and December 2026 with the final phase ending in February 2027.
