The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has successfully concluded an eight-week training programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of health professionals across Africa to diagnose infectious diseases.

The programme, which ended on Friday, June 26, 2026, was organised under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Third Country Training Programme with support from the Embassy of Japan.

In an exclusive interview with Univers News, Head of the Virology Department at NMIMR, Professor Joseph Humphrey Kofi Bonney, emphasised the importance of knowledge sharing, urging participants to transfer the skills and expertise acquired during the training to colleagues in their home countries.

“What they have learned here and the experiences they have gained should not be kept to themselves. When they return home, they should ensure that they pass on the knowledge to others so that more professionals can become competent in disease diagnosis,” he said.

The JICA Third Country Training Programme has been running for several years and continues to support capacity building among health professionals across the continent.
