The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that some Ghanaian tomato traders were caught up in a terrorist attack in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

In a statement dated February 15, Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak described the reports from Burkina Faso as “unfortunate and disturbing,” noting that the traders were affected during an attack targeting a military installation.

According to local sources, the assault was aimed at a military camp in Titao and caused extensive damage to the facility.

“The Government of Ghana has received very disturbing news of some tomato traders from Ghana who were caught up in a terrorist attack aimed at military installations in Titao, Burkina Faso, which caused extensive damage to the camp on Saturday, February 14,” the statement said.

The Ministry assured the public that government officials are working closely with authorities in Burkina Faso to gather details, visit the site, and assist in identifying any Ghanaian nationals affected by the attack.

Titao, located in northern Burkina Faso, has experienced repeated attacks by Islamist insurgents since 2019, amid ongoing security challenges in the region.
