Guest speaker at the second session of Day One of the University of Ghana’s February 2026 Congregation, Mrs. Mabel Nana Nyarkoa Porbley has urged  graduands to use their education as a catalyst for national transformation.

Quoting the late Nelson Mandela, she reminded the audience that, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

She stressed that the true value of a degree lies not in the certificate itself, but in its impact on society.

Addressing the graduands, Mrs. Porbley challenged them to view their academic achievements not merely as personal milestones, but as responsibilities to the nation.
She noted that Ghana needs graduates who demonstrate curiosity, conscience, and compassion in leadership and service.

Reflecting on her own journey, she recounted her formative years at the University of Cape Coast and the sacrifices her parents made to support her education. She attributed her professional growth to discipline, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.

Her career path, which led her to become Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sanlam Allianz General Insurance Ghana Ltd., serves as an example of purposeful ambition and dedication.

“At the end of the day, your credentials are more than certificates — they are a call to action. Our nation needs your curiosity, conscience, and compassion as you step into this new light,” she stated.

The ceremony brought together graduands, faculty, families, and well-wishers to celebrate academic achievement, while underscoring the broader role of education in shaping Ghana’s future.
