Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Paul K. Agyemang, has called on prospective accountants to adapt to the technological transformations shaping the accounting profession and use them to their advantage.

Speaking as the guest speaker at the second session of UPSA’s 17th Congregation Ceremony, held at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium on September 29, 2025, the CEO cautioned that failure to embrace these changes could render accountants irrelevant in their respective fields.

“We all learned and came to know that with automation and software, our profession was at risk of collapse or job losses. Yes, if you decide not to move along with the changing trends by adopting technology, then you will certainly not be worthy of your profession. But if you go along and learn the new things emerging, you will remain relevant,” he said.

He further urged both practicing and upcoming accountants not only to embrace but also to employ technology in strategic thinking and innovation, rather than limiting its use to routine tasks.

“Use artificial intelligence and other tools—not just to help you with mundane, operational work, but to develop strategic thinking, analysis, and insights that will make you highly valuable as a professional,” he advised.

As the accounting profession continues to evolve with rapid technological advancements, Paul Agyemang’s call serves as a timely reminder for accountants to remain relevant and competitive in the digital age.
