EOCO detains Shatta Waleโ€™s over Lamborghini in connection with U.S. financial crimes probe

Ghanaian dancehall star, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with his luxury yellow Lamborghini, which is under joint investigation by EOCO and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The car, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, is believed to be tied to proceeds from financial crimes committed by Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States.

Shatta Waleโ€™s detention was first confirmed by his Public Relations Manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah (Sammy Flex), in a social media post. He revealed that the artist voluntarily appeared at EOCOโ€™s offices on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to assist with ongoing investigations.

Background to the Case

On August 5, 2025, EOCO confirmed in a press release that it had seized the Lamborghini from Shatta Waleโ€™s Trassaco Valley residence, following a request from the FBI and U.S. Justice Department dating back to 2023.

EOCO explained that the seizure was part of a broader surveillance and asset recovery operation carried out by its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU). According to the agency, the car is being treated as an asset linked to Amuahโ€™s $4.7 million restitution order in the U.S.

Although the operation was described as professional and without incident, EOCO revealed that Shatta Wale initially pleaded with officers not to make the seizure public, fearing it could harm his brand.

Both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have been designated as persons of interest and are expected to provide further assistance to investigators in the coming days.

With the case attracting international attention, all eyes are now on EOCO and its next steps, as fans of the dancehall star await clarity on his legal fate.
