The University of Ghana has been urged to guarantee on-campus housing for all students.

Author and University of Ghana alumnus Jude Delle has called on the university’s management to implement more robust measures to address the ongoing student accommodation crisis.

Delle’s recently released book, The Legon I Survived: Celebrating the Journey to Graduation, draws on his personal experiences as a student at the university. His time as a non-resident student — particularly his struggles with finding accommodation — forms a central theme in the memoir. This journey, he says, inspired him to advocate for current and future students facing similar challenges.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers, Delle emphasised that, as Ghana’s premier university, the University of Ghana should guarantee on-campus housing for all students.

“We still have issues with accommodation. I know there are measures in place already, but they should take more drastic steps because this is the premier university,” he urged.

He further highlighted the severe difficulties and stress faced by students who are unable to secure on-campus housing. Delle noted that non-resident students from other regions face unique challenges, including safety concerns and the added financial burden of seeking private accommodation.
