The Programmes Coordinator for the Global Freedom Network,  Elizabeth Poku, has issued a strong warning to job seekers to verify job offers before applying, especially when in doubt, citing a worrying increase in cases of exploitation through fraudulent employment schemes.

This comes amid growing concern about human trafficking and labour exploitation, especially among vulnerable youth drawn by seemingly promising job opportunities.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers, she urged the public to seek verification from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit before taking up suspicious job offers.

“If you’re looking for a job and you’re not sure whether the job is genuine, you’re suspicious about anything concerning a job advert, go to the Ghana Immigration Service or the anti-trafficking unit. They can check if the job is genuine. By doing that, you’ll prevent yourself from being tricked and exploited abroad,” she cautioned.

Elizabeth encouraged the public to use verified platforms and digital tools designed to support safe job searching.

“You can go to the yea.gov.gh website; they have details on how to get your job checked,” she mentioned.

The Global Freedom Network is a faith-based arm of Walk Free, an international human rights group working to accelerate the end of all forms of modern slavery.
