May 9th will forever remain a dark day in Ghanaian football history. In honour of the 127 souls who tragically lost their lives during the Accra Sports Stadium disaster, the University of Ghana Corporate Football League paid its respects with a minute of silence before every Week 11 game — a powerful moment of remembrance that reminded all present of the sacrifices made for the love of the game.
The tributes extended beyond football. Friday also marked the official kickoff of the highly anticipated Corporate Athletics competition. In the highlight event of the day, the 60-metre dash, the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club showcased their dominance off the pitch, sprinting to first place. The GFA followed closely in second, demonstrating their strength across multiple sporting disciplines.
Then came the football.

From there, they never looked back. Their high-pressing game and physical presence overwhelmed the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, who struggled to maintain possession. Midway through the first half, they earned a penalty, confidently converted to double their lead. In the second half, GNPC pushed forward in search of a response, but their defence was caught out again. Another blistering break ended with a cheeky chip, sealing a 3-0 victory — Telecel’s first win of the season and their highest goal tally in a single match. A statement performance.
Union Ghana 2 – 0 GFA
The final match of the weekend featured a highly anticipated clash between Union Ghana and GFA, played in front of notable personalities including the GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, and former U-20 national team goalkeeper, Muntari Tagoe. Their pressure paid off with a slick attacking move that broke through the GFA defence for the opening goal. GFA attempted to respond, but Union remained compact and disciplined.
