Newcastle United completed a historic Premier League double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1930/31 season, capping it off with a commanding 4-1 victory at St. James’ Park on Saturday, April 13, 2025.
The Magpies had already secured a 2-0 win at Old Trafford on December 30, 2024, and ensured the double in emphatic fashion in front of a jubilant home crowd. Eddie Howe’s side overwhelmed United with a dynamic performance, exposing defensive frailties and dominating key moments of the match.
Manchester United, managed by Rúben Amorim, were second-best for most of the afternoon. Despite pulling a goal back, they failed to build any real momentum, as Newcastle remained in control from start to finish.
The result not only highlights Newcastle’s rise under Howe but also compounds a difficult campaign for Amorim, who is still searching for consistency and stability in his debut season at Old Trafford.
The defeat is a significant blow to United’s hopes of European qualification, while Newcastle’s historic sweep will go down as one of their standout achievements of the season.
