Ghanaian singer Kelvynboy has disclosed that fellow artist Kojoblak initially doubted the potential success of their collaborative song, Excellent.
Speaking on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty earlier this afternoon, Kelvynboy revealed that Kojoblak even considered handing over the song for him to release as his own.
“He wanted to give me the song to drop as my own,” Kelvynboy shared. “I asked him if he was sure, and he said he would think about it. After some time, he was convinced to release it himself. Then one day, he called and said he was ready to release it, and I told him, ‘Let’s do this, it’s your song.’”
Kelvynboy expressed that from the moment he heard the track, he knew it would be a hit.
“I knew it was going to be big. I think he didn’t really believe it would blow up like that. That’s why he was like, ‘Bro, just take the song and drop it as yours.’ But later, he was like, ‘I’ll think about it…’ That’s how real and organic the love was.”
Discussing the creative process behind Excellent, Kelvynboy described the vibe as natural and effortless, which inspired him to give his all to the track. He further revealed that his verse on the song was written by a half-Ghanaian, half-Nigerian artist whom he believes is destined to be the next big name in the industry.
Interestingly, Kelvynboy did not file for this year’s TGMA Awards just like Dope Nation.
“I did not file this year because I did not really drop active songs this year. I dropped a few so I didn’t really know which songs to put in so…”
That notwithstanding, Excellent has since gained significant traction, proving to be a standout hit.
