Member of Parliament for the Pru East constituency, Hon Emmanuel Kwaku Boam has offered his assistance in achieving the government’s goal of eradicating illicit mining in forests and waterways.
To combat this issue, Hon. Boam emphasizes the need to provide alternative sources of income for young people engaged in galamsey.
In an interview with Sunyani-based Ark FM, Boam stated that galamsey practices are strictly prohibited in the Pru East constituency.
He believes that offering safe and lucrative employment opportunities is crucial in deterring young people from participating in galamsey activities.
Hon. Boam also highlighted the importance of promoting mechanized agriculture to persuade young people to view the agricultural industry as a profitable business.
He noted that the Pru East constituency is ideal for large-scale agriculture due to its rich soil, human resources, and vast lands.
The NDC government plans to implement innovative policies and invest heavily in the agricultural sector to ensure food security and create jobs.
Hon. Boam reiterated the establishment of Farmers Service Centres, which will provide modern agricultural equipment to farmers in all districts.
These centres are expected to boost food production by giving farmers access to machinery to plough their land.
Hon. Boam commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah for his efforts in fighting against galamsey, citing the recent confiscation of galamsey machineries and arrest of illegal miners.
