The University of Ghana marked the grand conclusion of its 2024 graduation ceremonies on Friday, February 21, 2025, celebrating the perseverance, dedication, and achievements of its graduates. The final ceremony, held at the prestigious Great Hall for the last batch of graduands from the College of Humanities, was an emotional and inspiring event filled with reflection and hope.
As the graduates crossed the stage, clad in their caps and gowns, their expressions mirrored a blend of pride, joy, and anticipation for the future. Each step symbolized years of hard work, sacrifices, and triumphs that had led to this defining moment. Yet, beyond the applause and accolades, the words of the guest speaker and valedictorian left a lasting impact on all in attendance.
The guest speaker, Chairperson of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority and a distinguished legal expert, Dr. Juliette Twumasi Anokye, urged graduates to embrace the uncertainties of life.
“Life is not a linear path. Embrace the unknown, the unexpected, and the challenges that come your way. These moments will shape you more than any degree ever could. Don’t fear uncertainty, let it propel you forward.”
Valedictorian Mr. Eric Eshun, who graduated with the highest honors, earning a final grade point of 3.95, delivered a poignant speech that resonated deeply with his peers. He reminded them that their worth extended beyond academic scores.
“Your worth is not determined by your graduation year or the grade points you earned. The experiences, the friendships, the lessons learned, and the growth you’ve achieved during your time here are what truly define you.”
For many parents in attendance, the ceremony was a moment of immense pride and emotion. Some recalled the struggles their children had faced along the way, expressing gratitude for their resilience.
Speaking to Univers News, several parents emphasized the importance of investing in their children’s education.
“Support your kids, no matter the setbacks. They will achieve things beyond your wildest dreams. Parents should prioritize their children’s education over unnecessary expenses, and they will be amazed at the transformation they see.”
Graduates also shared their personal journeys, recounting challenges such as overcoming self-doubt, juggling academics with work, and navigating personal struggles. Yet, a common thread ran through all their stories—perseverance.
For the Class of 2024, the day was not just a celebration of academic achievements but a reminder to embrace life’s journey with courage and an open heart. As they stepped out of the Great Hall, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose, ready to face the world—not as a straight road, but as an ever-evolving adventure.
