Some members of the University of Ghana community have expressed mixed reactions towards Seth Terkper’s appointment as Presidential Advisor on the Economy.
Speaking to Univers Business, some members expressed their excitement about his appointment, while others questioned his appointment due to alleged economic mismanagement during his tenure as Finance Minister.
“Everybody admits that he is one of the finest brains within the NDC especially when he had held the fort for four years as a manager of the national purse and a tax expert, leading many to expect him to take a permanent role. However, it looks like it is a policy for this current government to elevate all the deputies to become substantive ministers, which is the reason why he was given an advisory position, but this is NDC in power. This is the government, and that is what they decide to do.”
“Based on parameters, if he did well as the finance minister, it makes sense for him to stay in the role since the president would have proof of his success. Also one would have thought that maybe he would have retained him since he could have done a better job. However, the president may want to have more direct insight into financial matters.”
“During President Mahama’s tenure, the economy ended in debt due to his incompetency, so how should such a person be considered for this position? I believe he should be appointed based on his success, but since he failed in my opinion, he does not deserve it.”
