Honorable John Dumelo, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, recently sparked a debate where he mentioned in an interview that his colleague, Honorable Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus, had told him that MPs need sirens to facilitate their movement. However, in a surprising turn of events, A Plus clarified his stance in a video circulating online.
In the same interview, Dumelo shared his personal thoughts on the use of sirens by MPs.
“If A Plus says we need sirens, I think that’s him. Personally, I don’t think I need sirens, some people do, I know they do, personally that’s not something I want.” he said.
He further emphasized that the debate could go on, but reiterated his personal stance.
A Plus on the other hand, emphasised that understanding the challenges MPs face in navigating traffic doesn’t necessarily translate to advocating for the use of sirens. He provided context to his statement, making it clear that his initial comment was misinterpreted.
“They say A Plus said he has now come to understand why MPs require sirens for their duties,” A Plus acknowledged. “What is wrong with understanding?” he added, emphasizing that gaining insight into the challenges MPs face is not something to be criticized.
In essence, A Plus is saying that while he acknowledges the difficulties MPs encounter, he doesn’t necessarily think sirens are the solution. This clarification sheds new light on the debate, highlighting the importance of nuanced understanding and accurate representation of individuals’ stances.
As the conversation continues, one thing remains clear: the focus should be on finding effective solutions to support MPs in their duties, rather than getting bogged down in misconceptions. Siren or no siren, what ultimately matters is the impact MPs make in serving their constituents and driving Ghana’s development forward.
