The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the Total Energies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) originally scheduled for 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The tournament will now take place in August 2025.

This decision follows consultations with CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who have been actively assessing the readiness of the hosting nations. While significant progress has been made in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure, the experts determined that additional time is necessary to meet the required standards for a successful tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the host countries.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and commitment,” he stated. “The ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities are impressive, and I am confident that they will meet CAF standards for hosting a successful championship in August 2025.”

To mark this transition, CAF will hold the draw for the Total Energies CAF African Nations Championship in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi Time. The specific dates for the tournament in August 2025 will be announced by CAF in due course.

As preparations continue, anticipation builds for what promises to be a significant event for African football, showcasing the talents of players from across the continent.
