Young Ghanaian Trap musician Essumann recently shared his journey and insights on making music, collaborating with key industry players, and his growth as an artist. Known for his quick turnaround in creating tracks, Essumann confidently stated, “I usually make my music in just a day.” Yet, he revealed that Cemetery Flow 2, a fan-favorite, pushed him to a new level of dedication, requiring an unusual four days to complete. Despite the extra effort, the track has been worth it, amassing impressive streaming numbers and gaining significant traction on his music platforms.

Essumann hails from Tema, a place often celebrated as the birthplace of some of Ghana’s biggest music talents, including Sarkodie and Kwesi Arthur. The town’s vibrant music scene has influenced and shaped Essumann’s career, and he’s keen to uphold its reputation by pushing his unique sound forward.

Essumann shared these insights during an interview on Radio Univers’ At The DJ’s Mercy on November 9, 2024.  When it comes to production, Essumann believes that a strong connection with a producer who understands his vision is essential. His go-to producer, Juicyy, has been instrumental in bringing his sound to life.

“When it comes to the producers, the vibe should match. Mostly certain producers send you beats and like, when you don’t use it, some of them get angry and all of that. As an artist, you should work with a producer who can understand your style of music and all of that and I think Juicyy is one of the producers who understands my music style, Yeah!” Essumann shared.

This creative partnership has allowed him to focus on what he does best—crafting authentic, resonant music.

One of the highlights of Essumann’s recent tape is his collaboration with Fameye on the song Pray More”. This feature came about after Mangodance, another artist on Essumann’s EP, suggested that Fameye would bring an extra layer of depth to the track. The team reached out, and within just four days, Fameye delivered a verse. Interestingly, after Fameye’s return to Ghana, he refined his contribution, adding a personal touch to the final cut that fans now enjoy.

“And also when it comes to Fameye, I think when I recorded Pray more, it was left with just one verse and I was figuring out who I could put on the song and so Mango suggested Fameye and we sent the song to Fameye. But that time he wasn’t in Ghana. I think he was in Amsterdam or so. So he recorded it there and sent it. It took him some day, 3 to 4 days. But later when he came to Ghana, he wanted to change the verse so we linked up at LiquidBeatz studio and he changed the verse and it was fire.” he narrated.

Essumann’s EP, titled In My Head Alone but Not Alone, is a personal project filled with carefully selected tracks that reflect his journey and artistic evolution. He proudly shared that the title was a collaborative effort between himself and his team, capturing the essence of the songs. Since its release, the EP has performed strongly, with streaming numbers on Spotify and other platforms validating the effort poured into each track.

As Essumann looks ahead, he hinted at more new music for his fans, promising that the songs on his next album will bring even more of his unique style and energy. He also commented on the high level of music consumption in Ghana, acknowledging the pressure and excitement that comes with catering to such an enthusiastic audience.

For Essumann, this is only the beginning, and his journey from Tema to greater musical heights seems unstoppable. Fans and new listeners alike can look forward to more innovative tracks, collaborations, and insights from this rising star.
