The Campus Association of Students with Special Needs (CASSN) at the University of Ghana, Legon, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the government, demanding immediate resolution of their long-overdue bursary payments.
According to a statement dated October 15, 2024, and signed by CASSN President Foster Kudese, the group has threatened to stage a protest or demonstration to bring attention to their plight as students with special needs if the issue remains unresolved.
The association urged both the government and the Scholarship Secretariat to act swiftly, emphasizing the urgent need for the disbursement of bursaries to ensure students with special needs are not left at a disadvantage due to the ongoing delays.
“We urge the Government and the Scholarship Secretariat to take immediate action to resolve this issue. We demand a clear timeline for the disbursement of our bursaries and a commitment to ensuring that students with special needs are not disadvantaged due to these delays.”
The statement also underscored that, despite submitting the required documents seven months ago, repeated follow-ups have yielded no progress or updates.
“Despite submitting our details and information over seven months ago, students with special needs have yet to receive any information regarding our annual bursary payments. Repeated follow-ups have yielded the same disheartening response: there are no funds available.”
CASSN is seeking a clear and immediate disbursement timeline and a commitment from the government to ensure that students with special needs do not continue to suffer due to the delayed bursaries.
