The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to the organisers of the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey demonstration, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 5, 2024.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the police cautioned that the organisers would be held accountable for any legal violations during the protest.
During a prior meeting with the organisers, the police reminded them of their responsibilities under the Public Order Act.
“The organisers have been informed that they will be liable for any damage to public property during the demonstration”
The police emphasized that participants must follow their directions to ensure public safety and order. “
All demonstrators are required to obey police instructions, maintain order, and avoid causing traffic disruptions or disorder,” the statement added.
Organisers were also reminded of the police’s authority under the Public Order Act, which includes managing the protest route to prevent traffic congestion and dispersing crowds if there is a risk of violence or disruption.
The police noted that they are prepared to take measures to restore order if necessary, including closing streets or erecting barriers.
Assuring the public of their readiness, the police concluded that adequate security measures will be in place to maintain peace throughout the demonstration.
