Director of Elections for minority in Parliament, National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating trust between political parties and the Electoral Commission (EC).

At the October 1, 2024, Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, Dr. Omane Boamah’s comments came in response to reassurances from the EC aimed at restoring confidence among political stakeholders.

He stressed that, given the EC’s past performance, particularly during the disputed 2020 elections, words alone are not enough—concrete action is needed to rebuild trust.

“Trust has been significantly eroded,”

Dr. Omane Boamah said, citing several troubling incidents that marred prior electoral processes.

He highlighted specific issues, such as basic arithmetic errors during the limited voter registration, which have cast doubt on the EC’s credibility.

“Assurance is built on trust, and right now, that trust is broken,”he emphasized,

He called for the EC to engage in genuine dialogue and take accountability to regain political stakeholders’ confidence.
