Bawumia proposes Solar-Powered outboard motors as solution to premix fuel challenges for fisherfolk

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to introduce solar-powered outboard motors during a campaign rally in Saltpond, Central Region.

This initiative aims to resolve the longstanding challenges surrounding premix fuel for fisherfolks.

Speaking at the campaign rally, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for a permanent solution, promising a pilot program to commence next month.

“We need a permanent solution to this problem because every time we move, we don’t solve the problem permanently. So before the end of this year, we are going to pilot the solar power outboard motors.”

He also stated that his office will engage fisherfolk in the coming week ahead of the pilot programme launch in October.

“We will have meetings with the fishermen on this in the next few weeks and the pilot programme will take place next month and we will start a whole new regime for fisherfolks because there is too much ‘kululu’ (fraud) in the premix matter.”

The innovative approach aims to eliminate reliance on premix fuel, empowering fishermen to harness renewable energy and enhance their livelihoods.
